Growing up, Sweta Srivastava has always wanted to participate in team sports, but his weight remained stuck on the sidelines. With the support of a friend and a new passion for the martial arts, the 23-year-old from Toronto benefits administrator took 95 pounds from his 5'5 1/2 "frame.
Win
As a teenager, Sweta regular on "snacks" late night Chinese takeout. In high school, it was 200 pounds, college, the 24-hour buffet dining inserted in 30 more.
Change
After graduating in May 2007, pre-med Sweta this friend warned him that his weight puts you at risk of heart disease, diabetes, and perhaps an early death. He was surprised to action.
Lifestyle
Eat small healthy throughout the day stymied Sweta impulses to snack in the evening meal. Suddenly, I had more energy. "Large meals I was tired," she said. Spinning and kickboxing helped shed 50 pounds. Then took Muay Thai, a form of martial arts, and dropped 20 more. In January 2009, he began working with a personal trainer, and he reached his goal weight of 135 pounds seven months later.
The reward
Sweta scored his first pair of jeans, which had always been too strong for them, and a lot of confidence. "Now I'm looking forward to the next challenge," he said.
Sweta Tips
Read the labels. "I do not buy any food that has 15 grams of fat or more."
Keep your equipment in your car. "I have never an excuse for not exercising."
Try a class. "The instructors push harder than you can push yourself."
