How One Woman Lost 50+ Pounds

"Be strong feeling!"

When Mandy Martin, now 26, was a teenager in Gillette, Wyoming, bussing tables in a restaurant helped keep despite a high fat diet. "I do not think twice about what I ate," she said. But in 2005, he took a new job as an equipment operator at a coal mine and had to sit for 13-hour shifts. On return, often stopped at a gas station for a super size donkey called "La Bombay" before collapsing into bed. Within a few months, 5'5 "Mandy tacked on 40 pounds.



Change: Mandy began a series of fad diets, but veered off course when the weekend rolled around. One night, after months of trying on and off, opened a letter from his mother, when a nasty surprise appeared out of the envelope: a photo of Mandy taken weeks before Easter. "I was surprised that I looked so bad," said Mandy. "That was my wake up call to do something for real."

Fleeing Lifestyle food stores, grocery Mandy was first home to the grains, and lean meat, and products. Five months of eating clean cut about 20 pounds. This summer, they faced the gym. "At first, I could not walk on the treadmill for more than five minutes," he said. "I worked up to 30 minutes of walking and running or other cardio." Another month, another 10 pounds gone. But not until that adds resistance training Mandy has found its preferred solution. "I never felt strong before," he said, "and weightlifting feel that way." Curls and squats have also helped even hitting 22 pounds for about three months.

The reward: Mandy renewed confidence gave her the courage to pick up and move to Superior, Colorado, to study sports medicine and start a new career as a personal trainer. "Now I can spend all day instead of counting the minutes until I can go home," he said. She entered her first bodybuilding competition in 2009 and has seven shows. "I used to flip through fitness magazines and thinking, Why I can not be so?" she says. Your answer now? "I can not."

Mandy Tips

Plan ahead. "I arranged my work schedule so you can carry between jobs."
Being a pro protein. "I added to the mixture of egg white in place of water pancake keeps me full."
Press the perimeter. "The food you need fresh products is on the edges of the grocery store, not in the middle."
